PPE Equipment | Safety Workwear
Personal Protective Equipment or PPE Equipment describes all protective clothing, high visibility clothing, safety footwear and head, ear, eye and hand protection that is required by law to protect employees at work.
Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 require many factors to be taken into account to ensure that the correct clothing is chosen for a particular task. Our guide below will help you to assess whether your PPE Equipment is suitable for the jobs it is being used for.
Consider the following when assessing whether PPE is suitable:
Is the PPE Equipment that you are using appropriate for the risks involved and the conditions at the place where exposure to the risk may occur? For example, eye protection designed for providing protection against agricultural pesticides will not offer adequate face protection for someone using an angle grinder to cut steel or stone.
Does the protective equipment prevent or adequately control the risks involved without increasing the overall level of risk?
- Can it be adjusted to fit the wearer correctly?
- Has the state of health of those who will be wearing it been taken into account?
- What are the needs of the job and the demands it places on the wearer? For example, how long does the PPE equipment need to be worn, what physical effort is required to do the job and what are the user’s requirements for visibility and communication.
- If more than one item of PPE is being worn, are they compatible? For example, does a particular type of respirator make it difficult to get eye protection to fit properly?
Below is a guide to the most common hazards affecting different body parts, and the solutions we sell to protect these from injury.

To ensure PPE Equipment is used correctly, and a positive attitude to it is established with the workplace, we recommend the use of PPE Posters. These depict a lighthearted view on accidents and injuries that could occur as a result of the misuse of PPE. Posters can be displayed in workshops; spray booths, factories and warehouse environments to provide a gentle reminder to staff that PPE should be used.
